Board of Advisors

Scorpion has an eight member Board of Advisors comprised of uniquely qualified individuals from both industry and finance, which will provide advice, counsel, industry contacts and investment opportunities.  Each of these individuals has longstanding personal and professional relationships with the Principals.  The following provides a brief background on each of the members of the Board of Advisors:

G. Andrea Botta
Mr. Botta is a Managing Director of Morgan Stanley & Co. Incorporated and head of the Private Investment Department, including the Princess Gate Fund, a $1.2 billion fund.  From 1982 through 1999, Mr. Botta was with Exor America, Inc., most recently as President managing over $1.2 billion in net assets.  Mr. Botta has been co-investing with Mr. Brandolini in a number of transactions over the past twenty years.

Pierre Caland
Mr. Caland is a private investor who has been investing with Mr. Brandolini in small to medium sized businesses in Europe and the United States since 1983 and with Mr. McCarthy since 1993.  In 1995, he founded Arabella S.A., a $40 million publicly traded fund listed on the Luxembourg Stock Exchange.  He also formed the CalFund in 1997, a publicly traded mutual fund listed on the Dublin Stock Exchange.  From 1979 through 1983, Mr. Caland worked with JP Morgan as a commercial and investment banker.  

Fred C. Goad Jr.
Since August 2001, Mr. Goad has been a member in Voyent Partners, L.L.C., a private investment company primarily involved in angel investing.  Mr. Goad served as Co-Chief Executive Officer of the transaction services division of WebMD Corporation (“WebMD”), a provider of healthcare transaction, information and technology services, from June 2000 through March 2001. From March 1999 through May 2000, Mr. Goad served on the board of directors of Quintiles Transnational Corporation (“Quintiles”) and as Senior Advisor to the Office of the President of the transaction services division of Quintiles. Mr. Goad served as Co-Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Envoy Corporation (“Envoy”), a provider of electronic transaction processing services for the healthcare industry, from June 1996 until Envoy was acquired by Quintiles in March 1999. From 1985 to June 1996, Mr. Goad served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Envoy.

Krzysztof Kolodziej
Mr. Kolodziej has over 10 years experience in the financial markets and is a Managing Director of Highbridge Capital Management, a global alternative asset management firm with over $20 billion assets under management. He joined the global macro group in 2006 focusing on fixed income, currencies and commodities trading. Prior to Highbridge, Mr Kolodziej worked at Fimat LLC. and Forex Capital markets as a derivatives trader. Mr. Kolodziej started his career as a private advisor investing on behalf of high net worth individuals in alternative investments.

Andrew B. Krieger
Mr. Krieger is presently the Senior Managing Director of Northeast Securities, Inc., a broker-dealer clearing through J.P. Morgan. In addition, Mr. Krieger owns and is president of Krieger Associates, a financial planning firm with an asset management division. Mr. Krieger is the Managing Partner of two limited partnerships invested in venture capital funds. Previously, he served as Managing Director of a New York based law firm and founded and sold an investment banking and brokerage firm. Mr. Krieger has 40 years of experience in the financing and securities industry and has provided investment banking and venture capital services for more than 50 companies. Mr. Krieger has been a founder of a number of these companies, served on most of their boards as a director, and was an ongoing consultant for the majority of these companies for a number of years.  Most recently, Mr. Krieger was instrumental in spearheading the fundraising for a private equity fund.

Bipin Patel
Mr Patel is the co-founder and Managing Director of Pan Am RE Management Group LLC since 2005. He is responsible for managing the Group’s assets in China. He also established the EB-5 Program LLC in China and is responsible for the ongoing management of the program. Previously, Mr. Patel joined Steinhardt Partners where he was responsible for purchasing and managing consumer assets in excess of $1 billion. Mr. Patel started his career as sales representative for Equitable Life Insurance where he earned several awards for achieving sales targets over ten years.

Robert Raucci
Mr. Raucci is a founding general partner of the Newlight Associates venture funds, formed in 1997, and has been co-investing with Messrs. Brandolini and McCarthy since 1994.  Mr. Raucci has been a venture capital investor since 1985, when he joined Alliance Capital.  Prior to joining Alliance, he was an engineering executive at Graphic Scanning Corp., a telecommunications firm, and an engineering consultant to Digital Communications Corp.  Mr. Raucci has been CEO of Wasabi Systems and Metis Technologies, and is currently a member of the Board of Directors of five private companies. 

Alberto Shaio
Mr. Shaio is the Chief Executive Officer of Craftsmen Industries, a Scorpion portfolio company and a leader in designing, engineering and building customized vehicles for the Experiential Marketing industry. Prior to joining Craftsmen, Mr. Shaio was the Chief Executive Officer of Farrel Corporation a world-wide leader in industrial mixing equipment to the rubber and plastics industries. Mr. Shaio is a well respected executive with over 40 years of experience managing companies and divisions of companies to high levels of profitability. Additionally, Mr. Shaio has turn-around success in difficult and challenging markets. Mr. Shaio has been a member of several multi-national corporate boards both public and private.  

Hiram P. Williams, Jr.
Mr. Williams is a co-founder and managing partner of Slate Realty Capital LLC, a real estate private equity firm which both advises private investors in real property asset class investing and invests directly for the account of the firm. Mr. Williams spent the first 15 years of his career as an investment banker specializing in real estate first as an associate of CPI, a privately held REIT sponsored by Lazard Freres and JP Morgan and subsequently as an officer at both Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs. Mr. Williams has worked with Mr. Brandolini in various capacities since 1976 and has invested with both Mr. Brandolini and McCarthy. He is a board member of Pacific Building Care, Inc., a Scorpion portfolio company.
